Join Our Upcoming Joint Ceremonies
In just two weeks, on May 12th, Combatants for Peace and The Parents Circle-Families Forum will host the largest joint Israeli-Palestinian peace event in history - the Joint Memorial Day Ceremony.
Three days later, on May 15th, Combatants for Peace will host the 2024 Joint Nakba Remembrance Ceremony.
We are at a pivotal moment in history and these ceremonies have never been needed more. As polarization, injustice, and violence mount, both ceremonies invite us to choose the path of reconciliation, nonviolence, and collective liberation. Many have asked us, “Why do you choose to hold these ceremonies side by side?”
Palestine and Israel have each established national days of remembrance and mourning related to historical and present violence in the land. Israelis mourn on Yom Hazikaron (Memorial Day) and Palestinians on Nakba Day (Day of Catastrophe). In both societies, Palestinians and Israelis grieve in isolation from one another.
Combatants for Peace takes a paradigm shifting approach to these days of grief as they jointly mourn TOGETHER. By bringing the “other side” to each other’s ceremonies, CfP challenges the status quo and sets the foundation for a new reality based on shared humanity and mutual devotion to a just peace. While acknowledging power disparities and while not equating narratives, we grieve together to remind ourselves and society that occupation, oppression, and bloodshed are not inevitable. We have the power to collectively heal, transform, and take actions for a future where all can live in safety, dignity, and freedom.
During this time of unimaginable suffering and devastation, we are raising our voices louder than ever to call for an end to the violence and demand a political solution that can bring liberation and hope to all. Please join us.
