Nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize, 2017 & 2018

We thank our friend, Professor Stellan Vinthagen for this nomination and for his kind words of support. Professor Vinthagen named us for our non-violent, bi-national activism, noting that we are the only peace organization that was formed by armed combatants in an ongoing conflict.

Love is Stronger than Hate!

I don’t know how the peaceful resolution will look: one state, two states, three states, but I do know it will look like us: Israelis and Palestinians struggling together non-violently for justice. Combatants for Peace is a bi-national community that is committed to dialogue and reconciliation. We know that only by honoring each others humanity can we truly achieve peace.

Chen Alon, CFP Co-Founder and Theater Director, Nobel Peace Prize Nominee

When I was young, I believed Israel was evil and Israelis were nothing more than soldiers with guns. That all changed when I met the brave Israeli women and men who helped found Combatants for Peace together with me and my Palestinian friends. I am so proud to be part of that historical movement. We met on the level of our souls and shared our humanity; we moved together in forgiveness and solidarity. Combatants for Peace is the model for our people’s future coexistence. It highlights the fact that world peace really can be achieved. If we, former fighters of both Israel and Palestine, can lay down our weapons and work together in brotherhood, then truly it is possible everywhere. We carry the dream and vision of seeing beyond the walls of hatred. We imagine the light of freedom for both our peoples, and through nonviolence, I know we will succeed. Combatants for Peace is a model of unity, and together we are going to make our dream a reality. Both our peoples carry thousands of years of connection to this land. We both love the Olive trees and Za’atar, it is part of our souls and hearts and will never go away. Both our peoples have the right to live in peace, freedom and dignity, not only for ourselves, but also as an example for the good of the world. When Jerusalem finds harmony, the world will find peace. When we join together in our nonviolent struggle, we will find the true heart of the Jerusalem, Yerushalyim, Alqauds, that we all love and belong too. Together we can change the world. Change starts on the inside, and expands to the whole world – join us.

Combatants for Peace for the Nobel Peace Price, 2017

I would like to nominate the Combatants for Peace for the Nobel Peace Price 2017.

  1. The Combatants for Peace is a totally unique peace organization that was formed 2006 by former Israeli soldiers and Palestinian combatants. They strive for a just peace in Israel and Palestine through ending the occupation and creation of dialogue and collaboration between former enemies.

The organization is exceptional since it is, to my knowledge, the only peace organization created by armed fighters from both sides of an ongoing and armed conflict in world history. Other veteran organizations are created after war ended.

Combatants for Peace is a true sign of the ability of people to find common ground and stand up for humanity in the midst of hatred, oppression and violence. These men and women have shown the amazing courage to go against the armed discourse within their respective community and collaborate with the “enemy”, replacing the guns and bombs with nonviolent means of struggle, and stand united together in their cry for peace and justice.

Together they make marches, nonviolent activism, educations for peace and they commemorate the victims on all sides. Every time they speak and represent the organization they are two persons: one Palestinian and one Israeli. Every position in the organization is having two persons: one Palestinian and one Israeli. They are a true sign of humanity and hope in a time and in a situation of violence and despair.

In line with the explicit criteria in the Alfred Nobel will Combatants for Peace have through their organization and work reduced standing armies and created peace conferences that reduces the likelihood of war. Therefore they deserve to be recognized as the sign of hope they are through the Nobel Peace Price.

Specifically I nominate two of the founders, one Palestinian and one Israeli:

Sulaiman Khatib, Managing Director, Co-founder (Palestine) and Chen Alon, Theatre Coordinator and Co-founder (Israel).
